February 16, 2015-Prayer

This last week had some very good days. last Wednesday we had our Zone Conference. Well now i think of it more as zone meeting with the President there. Because it is only one zone instead of two or three. Its lame this way because it was always nice to get to see some of your old buddy's in other zones, but what can you do?  At the meeting we learned allot of great things. One of the things we learned is a new way of how to teach. The way we learned is that we should just use the pictures in the pamphlets. Its a very simple way to teach it seems like it might not work, but it does! Its so simple we might think it is to easy, but is not the Gospel simple and easy to understand? That is the lovely part of the Restored Gospel, is the simplicity of it. I believed that this way would work and it did!

So on Sunday we went over to see our investigator named Franklin Acosta. He is a 17 year old boy who is from Honduras. His story is cool. He does not speak any English because he got here like a month ago. He walked for 3 months from Honduras to get here to america to work and help his family. He works all day in construction. Its crazy to see how people will do anything to get here. But this was our second lesson with him and we taught the Gospel to him. We used the pamphlet of this lesson to teach him. I thought at first it was going good, but then about 3/4ths of the way through I started to rethink and almost changed the style. But i did not, I just kept teaching the way I learned. Then with that faith to keep going we saw the blessings. He opened up completely, telling how he told God that if he got to America he would find his way to him, he then said how he wants to be an example to his family so they can come closer together and follow correct paths. The whole time he was just crying saying this is what he wanted. So we extended the date for the 21st of March for his baptism and he excepted. I am so excited to be able to teach him and help him keep his promise to god. Plus he is living with a Super solid member so he will have help there as well :)

Also on Saturday Josie was able to get baptized! The lady from Puerto  Rico that elder Roberts and I started teaching in Lawrenceville. She was able to keep that date we had extended and was able to be baptized on Valentine's day. Im super happy for her! She was so prepared it was incredible. Sadly I did not get to go to the baptism but either way she was able to come unto Christ. So in the end I will be able to see her on the other side. Also the other family I taught for 3 months over there is going to finally get baptized next month. So I am just super excited! and one more thing. Last year in my first area Elder Henson and I found a lady named Liliana she came to church 3 times and then I left the area, she did not get baptized then because she had to work to much and then she moved and they lost her. But I just found out the elders there knocked into her new house and got her back to church and she and her family are getting baptized next month as well. It just comes to show we are always planting seeds no matter whether we get to see the fruits or not they will always come.

p.s.  I am in the Norcross area, Im not the district leader over here. Its really weird to go from Spanish leader thing, district leader, senior comp, and the designated driver so basically go from allot of responsibility to not being any leader, Junior comp and just riding passenger. Its been really weird. 

Will you pray for Vedel, especially that he will get a testimony of the Book of Mormon. I would appreciate it allot!

This week was a good one, It started off really strong on Tuesday when we were going around knocking doors and talking with people. We went to a neighborhood of one of our members because we knew there was allot of Hispanic people that lived there. Now that i look back at it we actually had a really good day knocking. We were able to share a decent amount with all of the people we meet knocking. The wierd part i think is about 80% were teenage kids. And it is really weird for me to teach people that are still living with parents. Because most the parents just shut down everything. We also meet a JW guy that was nice and we talked with him for a few minuets. After being in that area for a while we went and decided to go check and see if this less active still lived on the street were this other member does. So we went and the person did not live there any more so we decided to just keep knocking the second door we knocked he told us some Hispanic people lived in this house on the corner. so we went to knock it. But as we got close i just could not see any signs that it was Hispanic or anything. So i asked my comp if we should knock it or some other door. But we decided to just knock it. So we did and this lady answered the door. we told her we were sharing a message of Christ. She told us she was busy because her husband was sick. I for some reason asked her if we could help in anyway or do anything for them. She then asked us if we could come pray for him. We ended up teaching briefly the restoration and ended up giving him a blessing. He had been hit in the eye with a line drive hit from a softball. His face was super messed up. But we ended up going back last night and shared the Book of Mormon with him and he is excited. 

Then on Saturday we had prayed where we should go knock doors and we felt we should go to two places. The first was Chelsea ln and the other was a apartment complex. So we could not find the complex on the GPS for some reason so we ended up just going to the other place. We knocked and only had to really awkward Spanish contacts, some guy that does not believe in God and one really cool Hispanic lady. But she is not interested. So we were like " what the heck" so we felt and then later that day we got a referral from the English sisters and guess where it was from, yep that same place we were. so that was cool. Then later we decided to try to go visit these less active/ recent converts. And guess what! as we pulled into the complex it was the same one we had been looking for earlier! Its crazy how the lord can lead us if we will just follow the impressions we have. 

I love being a missionary and being able to see so many little miracles. Some times they can be hard to see when allot of other stuff is going on but if we will just focus on what we have we will never lack anything. 

Its really cool to see how what you do and missionary work has in common. I was thinking about that the other day and I think it teaches me I need to be better at getting referrals from people and keeping track of them.

New Area...

This week has been interesting. It started by dropping off Elder Roberts at the mission office so that he could head home. Then getting in the car with elder young and heading off to our area. The first few days were really getting to know the members. We were also able to teach several of our investigators. 2 family's we are working with are getting super close to being ready to get baptized, the only problem is they need to get divorced from old wives and then get married to the one they are living with. So it is going to be interesting working with that. 

One of my goals that i had for this area was to get all the kids in the branch to just adore me, cause if you win the hearts of the children you win the hearts of the parents at the same time. i have already succeeded with one family called the Chavez. The little kids sat with me yesterday in sacrament and at a baptism after church. So soon the parents will love me too :)

Being back with Elder Young has been awesome, to just see how much we have changed, but stayed the same after all this time away. I am excited to be able to be here working with him.

Happy Birthday!! I hope yall do something good for it. That sister I told you about lives like just on the other side of the park by the house. maybe one day yall will run into each other. That would be cool. It sounds like good things are happing in you group, I keep praying things will go well.


This week was really a blessed week for us. It started off strong with a good lesson at the Suarez's home. I was on exchange with the English elders, so my comp did not speak Spanish. I thought I was going to be doing all the teaching, but the  member that we brought ended up doing it. Which was great! It was not that she was teaching the lesson, as much as she was sharing how they have changed and what the gospel means to her and her family. It was super powerful and touching. I am so glad for member support.

Then later this week one a different exchange my companion and elder farr. went by the house of these people from Uruguay, the wife has a faith in Jesus and the husband does not believe in a God. He believes in a higher power but that's it. They went by though and taught him and her. Richard, his name. He said he would like to find a faith in Jesus and in God. Because he is afraid of death. He said he knows many people who are not afraid of it because of there faith. And that is something he would really like to have. I was not there personally for the lesson but it is very cool.

Friday was a day filled of different things. The first thing that had happened was I received a call from the elders in Gainesville, telling me that morning brother Chavez had passed away. The same guy I talked about in my last letter. I was sad to hear the news, but at the same time I was so grateful I had the chance the week before to see him. The miracle was seeing him was not in the plans, we had for some reason forgotten about a different appointment and decided to go see him. I know that was inspired so I had one more chance to see my friend before he passed away. Then later that day I really saw that I now have another friend on the other side preparing the hearts of the people. We went and visited this referral that we got from the sister missionaries. Her name is jossi, she is 26. she is a little slow on talking and other things, but she is super smart! She remembered perfectly what the sisters taught her and the things she read in the introduction and the video they showed her. Im super excited to teach her. There were more people, but I lack the time.

I just love being here, I have seen how faith is the most important thing in this work. If we do not have faith that something is going to happen, it does not matter how much work we put in, nothing is going to happen. I am keeping my faith up, and the blessings just come rolling in. Even if I go through rough days (like the day right after this awesome one) I still have faith that good stuff will come, no matter what! Let us always take care of the seed of faith we have in us and lets grow giant trees of faith from our tiny seeds we have in us.

Happy New Year!! 2015 has finally arrived! super wierd that i will be seeing yall in person this year! Man how time just fly's by. So just quick update on one of my new years goals, The one about writing in my journal at least 3 times a week. Its going good, Ive already written more times this month than last month (that might explain how bad i am at it ) 

But the week started good with an exchange with the Zone Leaders. I stayed in my area for the day (which is what i want) We had good tracting experiences, said allot of prayers with the people on the door step. That is always super cool, just a nice little time in which we can share the spirit with them. Then that night we had a lesson with the Suarez family at a members home, but the member failed to inform us she was going to be having a party that night, so we really had to teach a short powerful lesson. It was on temples and eternal family's, all we did is ask the member to share how the temple has blessed their family, and other questions. But it was really just the member teaching and answering her questions (like it should be) But it was a good lesson. We are really praying and fasting that they will get their answer this month, so they can be baptized before it ends. 

Then I went on exchange with the Gainesville Spanish elders again, We had a good time, and some very interesting tracting experiences :/ But the next day was super awesome. We went to a place called "Good News At Noon" its kinda like a homeless shelter. We went and served food to the people that showed up, we met some very awesome people that came to help that really should just be Mormons, but one day. It was cool to do service like that again. i cant wait to do those kinda things when I go home. Then we went to the McDonald's they have up there, this one is special because it is one of three in the country at which you can build your own burger. And the stuff you put on it is actually real stuff! it was super good and really cool, hopefully one day yall will be able to try it. Then we visited one of my favorite members who is really sick. This man is such an inspiration, he still cracked jokes and had his smile on like he did when he was fine. And he remembered me when I walked in, he asked "are you back?" I had to say no, but I had come to visit him. It was hard to not shed a tear at some times, but it was good. 

  Thats great news about work! I had actually thought about you trying to work with Steve and his group. I thought of some other Ideas for more in the future. But I will save those till I go home, Ill need to get some connections to make it work.  

Also over in the draper 16th ward there is a Family Named the Arbon family. Their daughter is the girl in picture making the flexing pose. yall should go meet them.  

Over all this week was very good and renewing, I cant wait for this coming transfer, It is going to be a time of complete start over. To change my nature and who I am so I can be more like him that sent me, so I can be a better representative of him.

It was really fun to talk to yall and be able to see you. But i talk about
that in my email so. But I did get that package that you sent and the pants
had a draw string so the worked awesome! I used them on Saturday when the
branch had a soccer game. I looked like a real player with pants, kleets
and the mexico jersey. I did not get anything from that person you said, so
I dont know.

The highlight of the week was, like most missionary's i believe. The chance
i had to talk to my family and see them. It was fun to be able to share
experiences in a much faster way than just typing it out. Face time is a
really cool tool to have. Getting to see people face to face across the
country or the world is crazy, right?! The members of the branch gave me
another Christmas to remember. I'm so happy that I have been able to be
here for so long and get to know them like i do. I defiantly makes
Christmas allot more enjoyable when you know the people with whom you are
with. Also this week i went on exchange with some other Spanish
missionary's. I went to their area for the day. It was a good exchange, but
the whole time i just felt weird and home sick. Not home sick for my home
in Utah, but for the area i was just gone from for the day. I came to
realize that i feel like this is now my home, I have been here 7 months but
i feel like its been no time. Luckily I get to be here for like another 2
months so that's awesome! But when the time comes to leave its going to
just make it that much harder. It will be like leaving home all over again!
If I could stay here the rest of my mission I would not even complain.

Yesterday was a big day at church, it is the last time we have to start at
8:30!! so no more do we have to wake up early on Sunday to get to the
church at 7 for meetings!! we will know be starting at 11:40. I'm excited
about that :) also yesterday we had a good lesson with our investigating
family. They are so ready, but just don't see it. They feel like they need
to know everything before they can get baptized. So our plan for the week
is go visit them and just ask them the baptism questions. Don't let them
know those are the questions, just ask them then after tell them. So that
way they can see they are ready to the level that the savior asks us to be
to follow him. I feel like it will be a turning point. I know if we give it
our all and help them they will be baptized this month, no doubt.

with the new year coming up i came up with a few goals that I have.
1. write in my journal at least 3 times a week.
2. make at least 15 new friends
3. leave this area in tip top shape
4. come up with at least a plan of what i want to do when i go home

to start, I dont need any church shoes for Christmas, I have like 4 pair
and i know a member already bought me some more for Christmas. That makes
the 3rd pair i have gotten from members our here. I could use some tennis
shoes though. All i have is those white ones i had when i was back at home,
so they are basically done. And yes i am a size 12 1/2 ( 1/2 just to be
safe) Other than that im good. Their are lots of others out there that need
help this Christmas. Thank you for sending me those cloths, they did get
here in time and i was able to use them. Thank you for doing that. I keep
praying that your business will get up and going quickly, maybe this is to
help you. Its just like letting old investigators go, you always see
blessings.

Not going to lie this week was a bit slower for us. Kinda stunk, but it was
fun at the same time. So here in the Spanish branch the members will always
fall back on the missionary's if they need something done. So they had
asked us if we could play the wise men in some live nativity thing they
were doing. we were like ya sure what ever, it wont take up allot of time.
man were we wrong! almost every night this last week we had to do some
kinda of practice and one day we had to record what we were going to say.
it was really fun and cool to see it come together but man it took up allot
of time. so on Friday we had our branch Christmas party. It was fun to be
able to see the preparation come together. the only thing that went wrong
is that as i walked into the room i almost lost my crown from off my head
because i through my arm quickly to add a dramatic entrance. but it ended
well, dont worry i have photos that i will add. we also go to see Santa as
well! and we did not fail to get photos with him!

on Thursday we had our Christmas party. that day was really fun! so about
mid day we had teamed up with the fire department and the red cross to go
around this neighborhood and install fire alarms in peoples homes. it was
really fun and easy, i don't think the could have found better people to do
door contacting or getting into homes. out of the 6 doors that opened to
the group i lead we got into 5 of them, the only reason we did not get into
the other is because they said they keep up with their fire preparation
monthly. I also had taken time that week to learn new Spanish vocab so if i
ran into Hispanic's people i could tell them what we were trying to do.
then later that evening we had our Christmas fireside, and i got to see my
old companions and other friends i have made through out the mission. it
was super awesome to see them again. Then that night we got permission to
do a sleep over with the elders we were going to give a ride to in the
morning when we went to the temple. the temple was amazing like always, i
wish i had the opportunity to go more often. But i will be back there in
march when the Simmental family from Gainesville goes to get sealed. Which
will just be amazing to see these people that have literally become my
family become an eternal unit. i cant wait, it will be the best day of my
mission with out a doubt.

Then yesterday we had the 2 baptisms, it was the youngest kids of the
family we baptized last month. It was so great to be able to see them
become united finally in this great gospel they have come to love, it will
be an amazing day when they become sealed in the temple next year. Now our
next step is getting the Suarez family baptized so about this time next
year they can be baptized. If you could get Adriana Suarez and Cherry
Suarez in your prayers, asking they may know this is what they should do i
would be eternally grateful.

also i was bummed I missed steve. That would have been super cool to see him. i dont know what the mission president would have thought. would not have bothered me so i think he would have been fine.
